The challenge

The challenge was to bond an already-fabricated alien prosthetic as seamlessly as possible to the performer's skin and to make the character read believably for camera.

In television productions in particular, transitions have to be finished cleanly, colors matched exactly and the prosthetics monitored throughout the entire shoot. Even minor changes caused by movement, sweat or longer shooting days have to be spotted and corrected quickly.

The execution

The multi-part foam-latex prosthetic was applied carefully and adapted to the performer's facial structure. This was followed by individual coloring so that prosthetic and skin formed a harmonious whole.

During the production I regularly checked the fit of the prosthetic and, where needed, carried out minor corrections and touch-ups to keep the effect consistent throughout the entire shooting day.

The result

Thanks to the professional application and continuous on-set support, a believable alien character emerged that convinced both in close-ups and in moving footage.

The careful color matching and regular checks ensured that the prosthetic worked reliably throughout the entire production.

For this project, the foam-latex prosthetic was supplied. My role consisted of the professional application, the color match and support during the shoot.

Why is on-set support important?

Foam latex is especially light and flexible. This makes the material ideal for character transformations with natural facial movement.
