The challenge

The goal was to develop a believable facial ageing without losing the performer’s natural expression or recognisability.

Instead of using a complete face prosthetic, the ageing was built up from several individual transfer pieces. This made it possible to alter the character in a targeted way while the facial expressions still appeared natural.

Areas such as hooded eyelids, eye bags or crow’s feet in particular require precise modelling and extremely fine transitions, so that the transfers merge almost invisibly with the skin even in close-ups.

The execution

First, all the ageing areas were modelled individually. These included the brow area, frown line, nasolabial folds, eye bags, hooded eyelids and crow’s feet.

After mould-making, these became bespoke Bondo Transfers made specifically for this project. The transfers were then painted, applied and colour-matched exactly to the skin tone.

Thanks to the modular system, the individual elements could be combined precisely and produced a harmonious and realistic facial ageing.

The result

The finished Old Age Bondo Transfers gave the performer a convincing ageing without restricting her natural expression.

By combining several individual transfer pieces, a subtle and realistic effect was achieved that held up both in direct eye contact and on camera.
