The Challenge

With medical training models, the focus is not on artistic interpretation but on as precise an anatomical depiction as possible.

The models had to be worked out so that they could later serve as the basis for durable training props. This called for an accurate execution of anatomical forms and structures.

The Execution

After intensive anatomical research, the individual examination props were traditionally sculpted in plastiline. The focus was on a clear formal language, realistic proportions and a clean rendering of all anatomically relevant details.

Once the sculpting was complete, the sculptures were handed over to the client, who then took over mould making, fabrication, painting and final assembly.

The Result

The finished sculptures formed the basis for high-quality training models in the field of midwifery education.

This project shows how important precise sculpting is as the first and decisive step within a larger fabrication process.

Behind the Scenes

Every high-quality prosthetic or training prop begins with clean sculpting. The quality of all subsequent steps depends directly on the precision of the sculpture.

On this project, my task was to develop anatomically correct models as the basis for the further fabrication process. Mould making, casting, painting and finishing were then handled by the client.

Did you make the finished training models?

No. My task was the anatomical sculpting of the examination props. The further steps such as mould making, casting, painting and finishing were handled by the client.

Why is the sculpting so important?

The sculpture forms the basis for all subsequent production steps. Errors or inaccuracies in the sculpting carry over later to every copy of the model.

Do you also develop sculpts exclusively for other studios or companies?

Yes. On request, I also take on pure sculpting work as part of a larger production process.

Do you also collaborate with other workshops or SFX studios?

Yes. I am happy to support projects in which individual steps – such as the sculpting, for example – are outsourced.

Conclusion

This project shows that precise sculpting is the foundation of every high-quality reproduction. Anatomical accuracy, a good sense of form and proportion, and clean craftsmanship form the first and most important step in the entire fabrication process. That was exactly the focus of this project.
