Examination Props for Midwifery Training (Dab & Stroke GbR)

The Brief

Anatomical examination props were required for midwifery training. With models for medical education, artistic interpretation takes second place to anatomical accuracy.

The sculpts also had to serve as masters for the subsequent mould making: clear forms, correct proportions, careful execution of every relevant detail.

The Process

The work began with anatomical research using specialist references. On that basis the individual examination props were sculpted traditionally in plasticine.

Sculpting was done with the following production stage in mind: each piece had to work as a master for moulding and reproduction. Once the sculpts were finished they were handed to the client, who carried out mould making, fabrication, painting and final assembly.

The Result

Hand-sculpted masters that form the basis for durable training models. The precision of the sculpture decides the quality of every following step, because moulding, casting and painting can only reproduce what the master already holds.
