What Is Deadener?

In professional special-effects makeup, a variety of materials are used, each with its own specific properties.

Depending on the character, the area of use and the production's requirements, it can make sense to adjust these properties deliberately.

This is where the term deadener comes into play.

💡 Practical Tip from DoManh SFX

For me, every project begins with the question of how a character should move and come across. Only once that foundation is in place do I decide which material properties can meaningfully support the desired effect. That way the choice of material always remains a tool – and never the starting point of the design.
